Your age or skill level doesn't matter. We have sewing classes for kids, teens, and adults. Are you a beginner sewer? Our basic beginner classes assume you know nothing about sewing. You'll enjoy learning how to sew in a fun, relaxed, judgement-free atmosphere! If you're an advanced sewer, we have classes that will challenge you and sharpen your skills.

B102: INTRODUCTION TO SERGERS

Ever heard of a serger? Not sure what they do? You will be an expert after this class! We will show you how easy sergers are to use and how they will save you lots of time. You will learn the basics of what a serger does and how it works. Then you’ll have the opportunity to test drive some of the different machines yourself and make a trivet to take along home. Come see all the fun threads and stitches that you can use, and the many different feet that allow for numerous techniques.

B103: INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE EMBROIDERY

Are you interested in learning how to do machine embroidery, but don’t know where to begin? We will show how to get started in this fast growing hobby! You will learn about thread, stabilizers, the functions of the embroidery machine, as well as an overview of software. Then you’ll have the opportunity to sew out a sample to show all your friends and family!

QUILTING CLASSES |
Diane Fitzgibbon - $25/session or $110 for five months (Save $15)
Come join us once a month to make blocks from Eleanor Burns' book Egg Money Quilts. Choose from two quilt layouts or design your own. Diane will show you how to piece each block following the detailed instructions in the book. This is a great way to build your piecing skills and have a beautiful quilt. As a bonus, Eleanor has a separate project made from each block, lots of great old recipes, and fun historical trivia. SEW much fun each month.PROJECTS

DVSC Quilt Group meets at the Harrisburg store on the 3rd Monday of each month. All quilters are welcome. Bring your questions, your latest project for show-and-tell, or join us in our charity projects. The current projects are Leg Cozies & Walker Saddle Bags (see pictures below) which are donated to assisted living, nursing homes, and rehab centers. For Christmas this year, 21 Cozies and 20 Walker Bags were delivered to facilities in Dauphin & Lebanon Counties. We welcome owners of ANY brand of embroidery machine in this Club. There's no need to bring your machine! Club is in a lecture/demo format and will keep you in the loop as to the latest info on embroidery each month! This isn't a Club you need to join. Embroidery Club is for those who have, or are interested in, an embroidery machine. You will see the latest embroidery designs, accessories, software, and techniques. Club will enable you to get the most out of your machine, while making embroidery quick, fun, and easy. You don’t need to bring your machine to Embroidery Club as it is a lecture/demo format. Bring your questions and your latest project for show-and-tell. As always, the coffee and chocolate are on us!

On the even months we will be showing new techniques in embroidery and on the odd months we will show you the latest and greatest in software. As always, bring your questions and your latest project for show-and-tell. If you choose to accept it, there will be a challenge project given for the following month. We’ll have the coffee and chocolate ready - all that’s needed is you!

Kids Club is designed to teach new techniques with fun sewing projects. A
detailed supply list will be given for each project so that the students can
purchase their own fabrics. Please register at least ONE WEEK prior to the class.

DETAILS ABOUT THE
SEWING SCHOOL
Discount Vacuum & Sewing Center is proud to announce a new concept in sewing instruction. We have created the Sewing School inside Discount Vacuum & Sewing Center. No longer do you have to take classes in multiple locations to get the subject matter you want. You now have a local source for sewing classes that span ALL types of sewing disciplines: clothing, quilting, home dec, crafting, clubs and more, all in ONE location. The Sewing School allows you to take basic courses and progress through more advanced classes.
Are you a total beginner? The Sewing School will assume you know NOTHING about sewing and show you how easy sewing can be. Have experience? The Sewing School offers advanced courses with challenges and new projects that will inspire your creativity.
The Sewing School is unlike anything offered before in this area. Each of our Centers has a fully equipped classroom and our Sewing School instructors have vast experience in their area of expertise. Easy to use machines are provided for you in our Sewing School. You can bring your own if you prefer. Where other places may offer random sewing classes, the Sewing School has courses in all areas of sewing. The courses are set up like those in a school or college with levels of 100, 200, 300, etc. This allows you to know the level of experience in each class, and to know which skills you need to progress to another class level.
Classes at the Sewing School teach you not only techniques, but keep you up-to-date with the latest sewing notions, accessories, and equipment. The Sewing School uses FUN and easy techniques that will encourage you to want to sew more. We take the fear out of sewing and have a FUN environment where we laugh at our mistakes.
New sewing classes will be added throughout the year. Our website is always updated with our latest offerings. Sign up for our email updates and well notify you when new classes (and other great sewing news) become available. We are committed to being your Center for sewing knowledge and are excited to be the ONLY place in the region to offer a Sewing School.
TUITION POLICY: Checks for class fees are made payable to the instructor, NOT Discount Vacuum & Sewing Center. For this reason, we regret that we cannot accept credit cards for class payment. You are considered registered for a class ONLY when full payment is received. Sorry, we cant reserve class spaces over the phone. Please try to register as early as possible before class dates. You may cancel up to eleven days prior with a full refund. Canceling ten days or less prior to a class will result in NO REFUND due to class supplies already being purchased. Sorry, no exceptions.
SUPPLIES DISCOUNT: Purchase from our Centers any supply listed on a supply sheet for one of our classes and receive 10% OFF the price of that item. Exceptions include a sewing machine or serger.
HERE'S WHAT THE COURSE NUMBERS MEAN:
The Sewing School has classes in five disciplines (categories): clothing (CL), quilting (Q), home dec (HD), crafts & seasonal (CS), and clubs (CB). These letter codes let you know which discipline the class is in. Classes are also broken down into experience levels.
100 level courses: the most basic and are recommended for beginners
200 level courses: for intermediate sewers who are comfortable with basic skills and are looking for more
300 level courses: for experienced sewers who have mastered intermediate skills and want a more challenging class
400 and 500 level courses: for very experienced sewers who want to learn difficult skills
For example, class CL102 would be a clothing (CL) class for a beginner (100 level). |
