Help fellow "blanketeers" make blankets for ill and traumatized children in our area. Would you like to help? If so, please contact Karen, the head of the Dauphin/Cumberland County chapter of Project Linus at karenandjerry@comcast.net. Already have a blanket that fits Project Linus requirements? Drop them off at ANY time of the year at either of our Centers. |
 |
Project Linus is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide love, security, warmth and comfort to children across the country who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need. "Make A Blanket Day" is a culmination of blanket making workshops that occur throughout the year. See the links below for more information and for blanket specifications. Groups and individuals can drop off blankets to both locations of Discount Vacuum & Sewing Center all year long! |

Pillows-of-Love is a ministry that provides beautiful pillowcases and Bibles to women and children who are displaced, in a recovery shelter, a pregnancy center, or an international orphanage. The ministry is based on Psalm 4:8 "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Each pillowcase is handcrafted by a caring volunteer and embellished with the message of Psalm 4:8. A gift of The New Testament or a childrens book about Jesus is included with each domestic pillowcase. It is our hope that these gifts will give them a special place to lay their heads, remind them of Gods love each time they go to sleep, and provide the comfort and inspiration needed to seek shelter in our Lord Jesus Christ. For more information about Pillows of Love, click here. |
 |
|
* Make a monetary contribution for supplies/notions, Bibles, and other administrative costs.
* Invest your time to construct pillowcases (directions provided on request). Pillows-of-Love will assist with adding the verse.
* Volunteer to serve as a Pillows-of-Love Area Coordinator for the distribution and organization of pillowcases and supplies.
* Facilitate an "Adopt a Shelter" program at a church through Sunday School, youth group, VBS or other ministry organizations.
* Pray for those who share their talents and those who receive the gifts.

How you can help
If you would like to be a part of our charity sewing efforts, we are always grateful for your prayers, and for your sewing skills. We also need donations of postage stamps, 32 lb. weight paper (for our brochures), business and invitation envelopes, 1/4" or 1/2" ribbon for drawstrings in the 6" x 8" personal care bags, and desperately need soft flexible, non shredding clothesline for drawstrings in 20" x 20" summer camp bags. And of course, we'll be glad to take fabric and notions, and related sewing stuff. What we can't use, we will share with the other needle arts charities in the Greater Harrisburg Area. We'd love to hear from you. Just email Marcellene at macurrens@netzero.net. Thanks!
We are our brother's keeper (Genesis 4:9)
It is our passion and our heart's desire to be a blessing and a presence in our local community. We are self-supported, giving our own time and materials in both learning and teaching others basic sewing skills and tips. In the process, we experience a great sense of belonging while we cultivate deep, meaningful friendships. Like Dorcas of the New Testament (Acts 9) we look for ways to sew much needed items for those around us. |
