Innovation Since the Beginning
In 1964, several engineers and middle managers at a Japanese industrial company believed that they could redesign the industrial serger they were currently manufacturing to be smaller and lighter. Their company rejected the concept, but the team was so committed to their idea that they quit their job and formed their own company. They wanted to build a smaller "baby" serger for home sewers that was capable of producing an overlock stitch. This was the birth of a machine called Baby Lock.

There are so many ways to help out a community, and Baby Lock sponsors several charitable programs to help retailers and customers use their love of sewing for a great cause.
At various events throughout the year, sewers and quilters can find Building Quilts for Love, where volunteers have created thousands of colorful fleece quilts for women and children's charitable programs such as Tiny Stitches and Project Linus. Baby Lock also created Sewn in Love, a program which provides phone cards and sewn "thank you" cards for wounded soldiers at Water Reed Memorial Hospital.
