Nancy Wagner has Multiple Sclerosis and her quality of life was greatly enhanced by her assist dog named Huckleberry. Huck passed away in May. The "Dream Team" participated in the Dream Ride to benefit the New Life Assistance Dog Program. This is the program in which Nancy obtained Huck. Bob Vasile from Discount Vacuum & Sewing Center was a member of the Dream Team.
United Disabilities Services New Life Assistance Dogs Program helps people with mobility disabilities lead more independent lives. A New Life Assistance Dog knows over 80 commands. Opening doors, turning on lights, pulling a wheel chair and providing stability while walking are just a few of the ways these amazing animals help the disabled.
On July 26, Bob Vasile of Discount Vacuum & Sewing Center participated in the Dream Ride for Lancaster. Along with other Dream Team members, he cycled 100 kilometers (63 miles) to raise money for the New Life Program. The money raised directly benefits the service dog training program, and because UDS is a local agency, all funds raised stay within our own community to help people we know and see every day.
If you are able, please consider helping this important cause. The New Life Assistance Dogs program receives no government funding. It does not have a large fund-raising infrastructure or a high profile spokesperson like some other worthwhile charitable organizations. It depends entirely on the generosity of people like you. We accept donations all year long! You may send a donation to either of our Centers. Please make checks payable to United Disabilities Services, with a notation that it is for NLAD, and keep in mind that this is a tax-deductible gift.
Thank you for supporting the New Life Dream Team. Your generosity will enable people with disabilities to live fuller and more independent lives. |
